The Jupiter String Quartet is a particularly intimate group now enjoying their sixteenth year together; this tight-knit ensemble is firmly established as an important voice in the world of chamber music. Artists-in-Residence at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, the Jupiter String Quartet feels a particular connection to the core string quartet repertoire but are also strongly committed to new music. They have commissioned new works from several notable composers.
Michael Brown has been described as “one of the leading figures in the current renaissance of performer-composers” (The New York Times). His unique artistry is reflected in his creative approach to programming, which often interweaves the classics and his own compositions.
