ABOUT THE RISING STARS:

Violinist Anant Malpani currently studies at the Royal College of Music with Ani Schnarch. Anant recently graduated from the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill with a degree in Economics and Music, where his studies were generously supported by the Kenan Music Scholarship. At Carolina, Anant served as Concertmaster of the UNC Symphony, and was a recipient of the David Arons Prize, Benjamin Swalin Award, and Phi Beta Kappa honors. He has been invited to perform at festivals around the world, including the Aspen, Bowdoin, Domaine Forget de Charlevoix, and Decoda Music Festivals, and at Creative Dialogue France. An avid chamber musician, Anant has performed alongside Johnny Gandelsman, John Paul Jones, Anssi Karttunen, and David Alberman. In 2025, he received first prize in the Charleston International Music Competitio, and was selected as prize winner and soloist in the UNC Symphony Concerto Competition. His previous teachers include Nicholas DiEugenio, William Fedkenheuer, and Cornelia Heard. In his free time, Anant enjoys spending time with friends, family, and his dogs Dobby and Winston.

Christopher Tavernier made his orchestral debut with the Tar River Philharmonic Orchestra at the age of thirteen in Rocky Mount, NC, performing Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in the opening concert of the orchestra’s Fall 2013 season.  Since then, he has won numerous competitions throughout the southern United States including the Jan and Beattie Wood Concerto Competition at the Brevard Music Center, 1st Place in the inaugural Hayes School of Music Piano Competition, 1st Place in the Gulf Coast Steinway Society Collegiate Solo Piano and Concerto Competitions, and 1st Place in the Florida MTNA Collegiate Piano Competition. Christopher has a Bachelors of Music from Florida State University and recently graduated with his Masters of Music in Piano Performance & Literature at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. His teachers include John Cobb, Douglas Weeks, Read Gainsford, Rieko Aizawa, and Douglas Humpherys.
